What’s Up with Carli?

I had such fun describing the books I enjoyed reading in 2025 during December here on the Beyond Sight blog. But now it’s time to look forward to some of my plans for the coming year

One goal that I’m excited to share with you is that of my newest writing project. I’m turning my skills to a fiction story about Carli, a young woman who is studying at university and has to navigate the usual challenges of complex relationships and conflicting demands on her time. The stakes become even higher when she is forced to confront a medical diagnosis that will change every aspect of her life.

I already have a first draft of the story, and am busy reworking it to iron out some of the inconsistencies and plot gaps. I’m also trying to better reflect the messages I want to share through the book. I’ve been slowly working on Carli’s story over the past year. Now it’s time to start making progress towards getting the book published.

I received great feedback on the manuscript from my developmental editors (thanks, Harvard Ink) and have already started incorporating some of their feedback into the story. But there is plenty still to do.

With this book I’d also love to engage with readers as I go, asking my community to share their thoughts on various aspects of the story. All too often, writing feels like a solo adventure, but that need not be the case. While I currently have no clue how I wish to engage with readers, or even who I would like to hear from, I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve figured it out and hope you’ll be as excited as I am for you to be part of the conversation.

One decision I’d like help with is selecting the title of the book. At this stage I have a few that I like and think it would be fun to ask you to help me settle on the one that works best. More of that in the future.

I’ll be sharing more about the book in upcoming blogs, so look out for those if you’re curious to discover more.

Beyond Carli’s story I’m being cautious about setting goals for this year. My highest priority for now is my eagerly awaited kidney transplant. Since everything about it remains uncertain I don’t want to commit to anything that I may not be able to complete. As 2026 progresses all should become clearer. Again, no doubt I’ll keep you informed as things become clearer. At the very least I’ll try to keep up my blog and podcast, so content creation will remain A focus for me.

That’s it for the moment. Now I’m off to work on the next section of Carli’s book, where Carli’s boyfriend has just stormed out of her apartment following an argument. Want to know what happens next? Watch this space and my social media and you’re bound to hear more!
