My Year in Books: The Non-Fiction Titles

The cover of Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space, by Amanda Leduc. The cover has a pattern of green leaves on a dark background, with illustrations of a white eye, a white hand, a white ear, a crutch, and a small house with a triangular roof and a round window. The title and author's name are in a purple rectangle in the lower right part of the cover.

My final three blogs for the year are going to be on a central theme, the books I’ve been reading this year. Today, I’m going to tell you the non-fiction titles I read in 2024.
I set an intention in 2020 to try and read at least one non-fiction book each month and have continued this ever since then. My typical go-to genres are all fiction, so I’ve been trying to balance this somewhat. During 2024 I read a total of 18 non-fiction books, which I’m happy with.

Here they are:

  • Alyass, Ghofran – You Have 24 Hours to Live
  • Baumann, Annabelle Baptista – Guurl, You Ain’t Crazy
  • Bloom, Lisa – 7 Stories that Sell
  • Cohan, Melinda – Your Coaching Business Simplified
  • Findlay, Carly – Say Hello
  • Iannella, Antonio – Saigon Siren: Memoir of a Stroke Recovery
  • Ladau, Emily – Demystifying Disability – What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally
  • Law Christina- Blessings from Within the Dark
  • Leduc, Amanda – Exploded01 Disfigured – On Fairytales, Disability and Making Space
  • Lucyne, Linsay – Travel Beyond Sight – A Step-by-step Guide to Level Up Your Self-Esteem and Grow Your Confidence in Travel
  • Obasogie, Osagie – Blinded by Sight – Seeing Race Through the Eyes of the Blind
  • Paulson, Matthew – Email Marketing Demystified – Build a Massive Mailing List, Write Copy that Converts and Generate More Sales
  • Preston, Amber – Leadership Skills for Managers
  • Walsh, Kerry – Finding My Feet – A Rare Warrior’s Journey Through SMA and the Unknown
  • Wilkins, Rob – Terry Pratchett – A Life with Footnotes
  • Yoshino, Kenji – Say the Right Thing
  • Zipursky, Michael – What Consultants Really Charge in 2023 – Consulting Success
  • Zulu, Musa E – Mastering the Art of Self-Motivation: Tap into the Real You

As you can see from the list, several of these are on the subject of disability. My interest in the topic should be self-evident to anyone who knows I am myself blind. Others are business-related, either about speaking, business building, leadership or training. Finally, you will see my interest in inclusion more generally.

Next time I’m going to explore my interest in reading more diversely, in an attempt to break away from the types of authors that are typically represented in the publishing world in terms of race, Gender, nationality, language, and culture.
