I first started blogging ten years ago. In that time, I’ve created more than 530 blogs in which I’ve shared stories about my life and work.
Sadly, it is a reality of my world that my blog is the first thing to be sacrificed if I’m pushed for time over a given week. Perhaps it is naïve for me to plan to publish a blog article each and every week, but I seem to fall foul of that misconception each year. Realistically sometimes that simply doesn’t happen.
Much as I said in my previous article about my podcast, for some inexplicable reason this year has been unusual. It has been a fairly consistent year for blog posts for me. In fact, there is only one year in which I’ve posted as much as I have so far in 2025. That was back in 2017, the second year of the blog, back when it was known as Lois Strachan News.
I’ve recently planned out my articles for the remainder of this year and, all going well , should publish 44 posts before the end of December. Which means that there were only 8 weeks in which I didn’t write a blog. And I’m proud of that, all things considered.
In the blog I usually try to give readers an insight into the life I lead as a blind woman who is a professional speaker, bestselling author and podcaster. I love sharing my various adventures as I go through my life. In doing so I hope to show that a blind person can do so much more than society typically believes.
Of course, life is more than just work, so I also write blogs about things I do to relax, mostly about the books I’m reading. Reading is a huge part of my life and I regularly post overviews of my reading life towards the end of the year, which I’ll be doing in December.
I also love sharing stories of my dogs,, not only my beloved guide dogs, but our adorable rescues as well. I can always rely on the dogs to provide moments of levity amongst the more serious parts of life. I realize I haven’t been sharing as much about my guide dog Normandy as I did about life with Fiji. Mostly that’s because Fiji posted regularly on the Paws for Thought category, and also that I’m currently less active with Normandy. I’m sure in time that will change and I’ll have plenty to tell you about our escapades.
As you can expect, the focus of my blogposts this year has been the ongoing saga of my health. I took a deliberate decision to be transparent about what was happening as I went through the process of adjusting to chronic kidney disease, dialysis and a possible kidney transplant.
When I consider how ignorant I was when my specialist first began talking about dialysis, I felt an obligation to share my story in the hope that others could gain a better sense of what to expect than I had. Of course , all I can share is my own experience, which might be totally different from what someone else experiences. Still, the feedback I’ve had is that people have found value in what I’ve shared. So it is worthwhile.
I know many readers use the links on social media to engage with my blogs. The risk of this is that they won’t be able to read what I’ve been up to if I were ever to leave social media (or be kicked off for some or other reason). If you don’t wish to run this risk, it’s better to simply subscribe to my mailing list where you’ll receive my blog in your mailbox each week without fail. You’ll find the subscribe button wherever you’re reading this right now – just fill in your name and e-mail and the next post will drop into your mailbox like magic.
If this is the first time you’re reading one of my blogs and would like to discover more of my story, why not browse through a few of the other articles. If you enjoy them, you can always subscribe as well.
To make it easier, you’ll find the Beyond Sight blog at https://www.loisstrachan.com/beyond-sight/
If you decide to join the Beyond Sight family, there’s a convenient sign-up page right there! I’d love to welcome you to the community.
And, as a teaser for what’s coming up next, I’ll be sharing those posts about the books I’ve been reading this year.
