“Hi there, Craig. Congratulations on the birth of your new baby!”
To say that my husband, Craig, was startled to receive a call from our private health care provider congratulating him on our new arrival would be something of an understatement. Especially since the only “new arrival” in our family was Mini Mell, the kidney I had just been gifted by my friend, Melanie.
Somehow my name had been added to the wrong list.
After Craig picked himself up off the floor from laughing so hard, he explained the situation and the agent promised to ensure my name was removed , apologizing profusely for the mistake.
Craig, Melanie and I had a good laugh about the whole thing. And that’s where it might have ended.
Except that Craig, Melanie and I all share a slightly twisted sense of humour. And, from that small beginning, an entire saga began.
Melanie was the first to pick up on the story, asking how Vlad, our new (shared” baby, was doing.
Then, because I had a bandage on my neck from a drip that was put up during the transplant surgery, Vlad inevitably became a vampire baby.
Finally Craig, who has a particular talent in creating AI-generated images, started sharing pictures of our “new arrival”
So the story of Vlad continues to grow.
Being a vampire, Vlad is growing up much faster than a human baby, and can now be seen enjoying time on the beach, visiting Melanie at her home in a different city from mine and Craig’s, and playing poker with one of our rescue dogs, Avery. He’s even dabbled with the idea of conquering the deep blue sea as a pirate, if you can believe it.
I haven’t mentioned Vlad before now, mostly because I haven’t gathered all the images in a place where I can easily share them. But perhaps I ought to do so, as a reminder that we shouldn’t take ourselves or life too seriously.
So, meet Vlad, the imaginary vampire baby. And it’s all thanks to an error made by someone at our health care provider who accidentally added my name to the wrong list.
Let me know if you’d like to see more Vlad images? If so, I’ll figure out the best place to share them and let you know how to find them.
